Google changes satellite imagery of Post-Katrina aftermath in New Orleans?

Flag As Inappropriateapostlebatman apostlebatman about 1 year ago about Google

Is it me, or is there something fishy when you want to view the most recent satellite imagery of New Orleans but instead of seeing destruction and filth everywhere, you see a once beautiful city before Katrina hit.

Now whether Google did this intentionally just to make it’s map pretty and everything or to hide the aftermath of Katrina due to government failures, politics, whatever… it just seems sad that Google would do something like this. Google has always promoted the truth (the do no evil motto) and so on when it came to their products and services such as Google News.

Google better fix this one fast…

Google Maps should by Icon click- show area pre & post event. Now thats nice. Useoverlay. ALL Photos should see New Orleans as is Now, click Mouse & U see New Orleans post Kartina by X days time. Cool. Same for 2004 tsunami. Good feature. Give Users Both pictures vs 1. Ok Google.

For the record, the majority of maps on Google Maps are a few months to a couple years old.

Heck, if I look at my neighborhood (which is fairly new), all I see on Google Maps is some dirt roads and farmland.

So, no conspiracy. No one trying to hide the truth. The maps are old satellite data. It’s not like Google has a satellite in space that takes an up-to-the-minute shot of the world at your request.

Relax.

Well… if your new neighhborhood is in the middle of rurual Kansas, I would agree that Google Maps might take a while to update that area. But as far as major metropolitans go such as New York City, San Francisco, or New Orleans, we all know how construction comes up in the middle of no where creating new routes/roads/etc. which is why those areas get updated a lot faster then others.

If you also read my view and the CNN article, you will realize that Google Maps had the devastation of New Orleans on the maps before… then recently replaced it with the pre-katrina maps… which is why it is a big deal now.

The Washington DC area has not been updated in at least four or five years.

I don’t think this is that big of a deal nor do I think Google is hiding anything. If Google Maps doesn’t show it, will people believe it never happened?

Right now Google Maps shows the devastated post-Katrina New Orleans. This is a non-issue.

I revisited the not so BIG NO last month and found it missing 4 out of 5 people which is not good but most because the cannel walls are still not safe and most of the stores are still not open however the city is almost all cleaned up However much is still needed to make the city viable and on top of that all a lot of the FEMA loans are now becoming due

Most people thing the levees failed but that is not quite true as what major failed were the substandard cannel walls for the massive pumps which should of been build on Lake Pontchartrain which would of eliminated the cannels

And Industrial Canal which did overrun a levee has been on this list to close for years So until Industrial Canal is closed and the pumps are moved or the canal wall is properly reinforced which is not being done as there only fixing the section that failed leaving new substandard sections to fail in the futures Another failure was in local code office not to provide adequate flood for construction which is now in place for normal flooding however a lot of smart people are moving there house up much more to above the katrina flooding levels
