While scientists, as well as most people, agree that atmospheric warming is a pressing, important issue, the car companies are fighting legislation to prevent increased mileage standards, even though they simultaneously present themselves as moving towards better vehicles.

The U.S. auto industry challenges Vermont in court on Tuesday, trying to block efforts by 10 states adopting stricter limits on vehicle emissions of carbon dioxide, a main greenhouse gas.

Coming from Vermont, I am aware of their strong environmental push. Vermont is one of the only unspoiled states left, and it must stay that way. I think this is great. Good for Vermont! Stand up to those Hummer-driving, McMansion-owning bastards at Ford and GM. Take your 7MPG and shove it.
