According to a story in ArsTechnica, Amazon.com will start a DRM-free online music store “later this year”, selling unprotected MP3-files. One of the sources for the store will inevitably be EMI, which already started selling unprotected music through iTunes Music Store.

Cool news--I wonder how EMI looking to be taken over will affect DRM

Seeing as the other majors aren’t following its lead, I wonder how EMI’s leadership in ditching DRM with iTunes and presumably Amazon will play out if they’re looking to be taken over by one of the other majors?

Makes sense most music is sold without drm: ie, on CDs.
