Workers of the World Unite Against Starbucks (Nation/AlterNet Article)

Although Starbucks has an image of being social concerned, how it treat its workers contradicts the image….

Title: Workers of the World Unite Against Starbucks Author: Liza Featherstone, The Nation. Posted May 21, 2007.

Intro:

When you pay $4 for a cup of coffee-flavored foamy milk at Starbucks, part of what you’re buying is an illusion of environmental responsibility. How they treat their workers is a different story.

First Paragraph:

Last week Starbucks faced legal and political trouble from its own workers. On the third anniversary of the founding of the IWW Starbucks Union, baristas in Chicago marched into a shop and told the manager they were signing up. (Starbucks workers have chosen to organize without government-mediated elections, through an interesting model called “solidarity unionism.”)

The Starbucks in Vons/Albertsons etc have it worse than the Corp run stores. Under Union rules. Low pay, even for Mgrs.

Hello Starbuck, Fix or lose marketshare or lose in lawsuits. Class action suits. Bad PR. Low sales. Then layoffs?? Damage control PR moves now.

& your 2 damn slow in coming out with new syrups for new coffees.

Your bagged coffee costs TOO much.

Your sweets, cookies are 2 “boutique”. 4.00 for 1oz bag of nuts?? Get Real. ALL STARBUCKS stores.

Change image & Mgmt or Lose.
