Flag As Inappropriatecitizengoat citizengoat about 1 year ago about ProgressiveKid

At PK, our mission is to support the development of progressive kids, so that the next generation will be equipped and prepared to care for our planet and the many forms of life that live on it. We pursue our mission

  • by creating and selling kid-positive products that communicate life-affirming values of self-respect, creativity, curiosity, responsibility, and empathy;
  • through the articles we write for our blog on progressive parenting and green living;
  • by creating and maintaining a noncommercial site for kids, Kids’ Rock;
  • by supporting like-minded organizations, sponsoring worthwhile events, and participating actively in our local and global community;
  • by co-founding and helping to run Earth Kids Organized, an organization devoted to empowering kids in their work on climate change; and
  • through our ethical, fair, green, and sustainable business practices.

We hope ProgressiveKid can support you in your efforts to live life in a more empowered, positive, and purposeful way.

What PK is doing

citizengoat about 1 year ago

Thanks for your comments. I’m happy to have the opportunity to tell you about what we’re doing and pleased that you care enough to ask. Here are some of our actions:

1. We organized and sponsored (and participated in of course) an ivy pull on Earth Day (instead of selling things at the local Earth Day fair). We liberated more than 100 trees, including old-growth trees, from invasive ivy (article # 2 on http://www.progressivekid.com/press.aspx).

2. We have created a nonprofit organization to increase the effectiveness of school, library, and community efforts by kids to combat and deal with climate change. It just started but you can read about it here: http://www.earthkidsorganized.org.

3. We support with donations and “percentage of product profits” numerous organizations that are helping our planet including Conservation NW, West Sound Wildlife Shelter, Blue Ocean Institute, Music for All Foundation, and Trees for the Future.

4. We created and run Kids’ Rock, a noncommercial site for kids to help them develop self-awareness and explore consumerism and climate change.

5. We developed a lead-free lunchsack for kids (because the ubiquitous nylon ones had lead). Read about it here: http://www.cehca.org/lunchboxes.htm.

6. We’re writing and publishing through our own press a book on climate for kids and for use in classrooms. We hope to have it out by the end of the summer.

Please read more about our mission at http://www.progressivekid.com/about_u….

I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Best,

Sarah Lane Co-founder ProgressiveKid
