REI’s 43-acre eastern distribution center receives U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for New Construction. Making this building one of the biggest green buildings in the country.
The LEED certification is given to parties that take environmental impacts in consideration when constructing building(s)/property. Some examples listed for REI’s Green building include: *reducing water use in landscaping, sinks, toilets and showers *Purchasing acres for development of natural wetlands for wildlife *Positioning the building so it uses the benefits of the sun and wind during the changing seasons *donating property to Habitat for Humanity and lots more

I think it’s cool that this development compliments their products as well as their company’s mission.
