Google Supports Open Source Software

Flag As Inappropriateprowsej prowsej about 1 year ago about Google

Google spends significant amounts of money paying for students to spend their summer working to support and extend open source software. Here is a map showing where the students are from and what projects benefited: http://code.google.com/soc-map.html

This is a much better way to spend their dotcom billions than paying an advertising firm to create sock puppet ads!

Google is advertising by doing good… in other words, doing well by doing good.

Another example here: http://dotherightthing.com/entries/19

Perhaps this is why people love Google. I personally would much rather support a company that grabs publicity by working to make the world better… rather than spend hundreds of millions interrupting my life with stupid commercials that a company thinks will alter my behavior.
