Do we need a bill for Common Courtesy?

Flag As InappropriateJohnny5 Johnny5 about 1 year ago about American Airlines

In a recent article from The Associated Press I read about an incident that was quite disturbing. American Airlines flight 1348 departing San Francisco at 9:10 am headed to Dallas-Fort Worth was diverted to Austin TX due to bad weather. Along with this flight 11 other American Ailines flights were diverted to the same location. Imagine yourself being stranded on a plane with no food and overflowing toilets for 9 hours, I would go crazy. I would think the logical thing to do for the American Airlines Executives to do would be to find somewhere to unload the passengers. The airline did not unload because they did not want people stranded in Austin for 2 or 3 days. Why did’t they just let the passengers wait in the airport were they could have had bathrooms food and comfort? Does it cost to much to unload and reload the plane? Then why was this decission made? The airline was probably affraid of losing money on these flights, I wouldn’t be suprised if they knowingly flew into the weather to avoid any canceled flights. There has to be a line drawn somewere this is borderline inhumane not “doing the right thing”. Now passangers are infact taking action and asking Congress for a bill of rights this includes a law that would make airlines required to unload at a gate after 3 hours. Do you think they have something here? It turns out also I open my home page this morning and right there at the top of the page at Yahoo.com there is a story headlined Trapped on the Runway http://www.yahoo.com/s/507964, http://www.yahoo.com/s/507965. A story about a Jetblue plane in a similar situation stranded for 9 hours on a New York runway. I don’t know about you but I might think twice before flying these airlines.

JetBlue “Passenger Bill of Rights” http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070220/a…=AmXaaafH1Q1EYt.RnFbmKK8DW7oF

Under the bill, customers will be compensated based on the length of delays. The value of the vouchers range from $25 to the full amount of the ticket. The qualified delays include those caused by airplanes unable to taxi to the gate within 30 minutes and flight departures held up for a minimum of three hours, according to JetBlue.

If JetBlue cancels a flight within 12 hours of departure, customers can ask for a full refund. The company said passengers would also receive vouchers if delays are the airline’s fault and that it would deplane passengers if an aircraft is delayed on the ground for five hours.
