about 1 year ago about Wal-Mart
This month Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott announced his intent to further integrate sustainability into his company’s culture through Global Innovation Projects that go beyond simply focusing on its environmental footprint to engage associates, suppliers, communities and customers. One of these initiatives will help remove non-renewable energy from products for example.
| “Sustainability 360 takes in our entire company – our customer base, our supplier base, our associates, the products on our shelves, the communities we serve” |

Good, but not great

I think the idea here is great. However, I’m not so sure Wal-Mart is truly committed to this.
“Scott highlighted Wal-Mart’s initiative to work with suppliers to reduce packaging by five percent by 2013”
5% over the course of 7 years doesn’t seam like much to me. But at least its a start.
At Least They Are Trying And Not Resisting

Walmart has a long way to go, especially in their labor practices but I have to say, at least they are trying. And luckily, there are so many watchdog groups that the won’t get away with an advertising only green-washing campaign.

If you stop and think about how large Walmart is, 5% is a lot.
