You’ve seen the commercials, you know the jingle. Freecreditreport.com, a supposedly legitimate company, has been scamming individuals to sign up and get a free credit report, just like the name says. WRONG! Once you sign up, you have a limited timeframe in order to cancel your membership, otherwise every month from then on, they will withdraw money from your bank account, without requesting your permission, nor informing you of the charges. Not a call, not an email, nothing. There are tons of people being taken advantage of by this unethical company. I typed in “Freecreditreport.com” and “scam” into google, and came up with a literally thousands of people who have been scammed just like myself. Luckily there is a class action lawsuit against them (www.browningsettlement.com), however this needs to come to an end immediately.

It is unfortunate that companies like Experian have looked to create returns by trapping consumers, instead of providing services that add tangible value to their lives. I might not care as much if consumerinfo.com Inc., which runs freecreditreport.com, was a small company with questionable intentions in the first place, but Experian is supposed to represent a fair, objective source for information about the financial health/states of people. It is a publicly traded company.

If anyone you know needs a real free credit report, they are entitled to one free report from each of the three bureaus each year. You just have to go to the right website: annualcreditreport.com. The site doesn’t trick you into buying anything.
